Aisha Essa Al Ali, a sophomore student at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences in Zayed University, won the first place in the Japanese speech contest recently.

The contest, which received over 40 participations, is held annually by the Japanese Embassy in the UAE in an attempt to encourage enthusiastic Japanese language learners.

His Excellency, Yoshihiko Kamo, Ambassador of Japan to the UAE, awarded Aisha on her achievement during a one-day event held at the Institute of Applied Technology in Abu Dhabi.

“It is my first time to participate in this contest. My speech, entitled “My Dream,” focused on my desire to continue studying in Japan. However, it is no longer a dream, it is now a goal in process,” Aisha said.

“I am an active member at the Japanese Club in Zayed University. I have learned a lot about the Japanese language and culture. I greatly love this country,” She added.

Prof. Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, has praised active student participations in various learning projects.  

“Participating in such contests reflects the ambitions of Zayed University students to achieve excellence and distinction not only in academic performance, but also in extracurricular learning activities,” AlMehaideb said.

The Embassy of Japan had earlier organized a “Japan Week” with Zayed University on the Female campus earlier. Students of the university had opportunities to discover the language and culture of Japan through attending events such as intensive Japanese language course, workshops on Japanese culture, and Japanese film viewing.

Fatma Abdulmuttaleb Abdulla, a student at the Colleges of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University, had also won the first place at the Japanese speech contest in 2014.

The Japanese speech contest witnessed large participations from students enrolled at various high schools and universities from both Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
