Zayed Environmental Impact Network (ZEIN) in collaboration with 350.org will launch the "Global Environmental Salon" under the banner of "Consume Wisely" on 10.10.2010 at Zayed University, Dubai, UAE. The event follows on from the successful environmental sustainability exhibition organized by ZEIN in May 2010.

10/10/10 is "A Day to Celebrate Climate Solutions", and is part of an international grassroots campaign that aims to mobilize a global climate movement united by a common call to action. 350 is the most important number on the planet. Why? 350 parts per million (PPM) of CO₂ is the number that leading scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in our atmosphere but the present ppm is 392.9! To get back to 350ppm, we need a different kind of PPM-a "People Powered Movement" that is made of people like you in every corner of the planet.

UAE is amongst the highest in Ecological footprints in the world. UAE shelters nearly 180 Nationalities - 83.5% of Expats and16.5% of Local Emirati forms the populace of UAE. No Government can alone tackle these issues unless each one of us acts responsibly.

The Global Environmental Salon will bring many communities together on the same platform to raise awareness, to their voices and reduce their emissions. It is the basic responsibility of every resident to understand that unless we all work together; we will never be able to reduce our ecological footprint nor fight climate crisis. We appeal to each of them to care for the planet's health to sustain future generations. This wonderful initiative tries to reach out all these communities with a message  ‘Let us make UAE beautiful; Greener and safer. Planet's health depends on our action today'.

Environmental leaders such as Robert Swan, David Attenborough and Arnold Schwarzenegger will be invited to the event. UAE companies that market environmental products will also give 10 minute workshops on how their products can help reduce the carbon footprint of the UAE.

Dr Usama ALAlami, CEO of ZEIN said "we are very excited to launch such an international event, and hope to make a positive impact on reducing the carbon footprint of the UAE. The current levels of Carbon Dioxide are 392PPM. This presents danger to living creatures on this earth. We plan and need to bring it down to 350 PPM".

Ban Ki Moon, Secretary General of the United Nations said "It's time for us to roll up our sleeves and get to work on building the clean energy future that will generate economic opportunity and provide a better, safer, healthier world for our children. On October 10, I encourage everyone to do his / her part to be part of the solution to the climate challenge."

We proudly announce the start of the "Consume Wisely" video competition.
Terms of the competition;

• The video should be a maximum of 10 minute DVD
• The content provides day-to-day solutions on reducing carbon emissions
• The video should possess a serious and creative approach

The due date for sending the video is 7^th October 2010.

There is a prize of AED 10,000
