Zayed University Student Council Activities Plan for the New Academic Year

The new Student Council at Zayed University, Dubai, held a meeting in Dubai campus to discuss its plan for the new academic year. 20 students from different colleges attended the meeting.
Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, congratulated the new Council members and expressed the importance of maintaining the trust that has been given to them by their colleagues by constructing an effective plan of activities that will add to the students' skills and experience. This comes under the guidance of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, President of Zayed University, and His Excellency's interest in providing students with opportunities that will shape their personalities and contribute in preparing them to join the workforce after graduation. At Zayed University's 13th Convocation, His Excellency said, "I remind you that Enhancement of the Student Experience at all levels in the university is an overarching priority for this year and every year. Building upon our already strong base, we must deepen our academic requirements, engage students in research and service, and expand international opportunities and experiences. Every one of our students needs sound advising and mentoring throughout her or his course of study. Academic, personal, and career advising must assume an even more prominent role for faculty and student affairs staff."
Shaima Khoory, Student Activities Coordinator at Zayed University, Dubai, said the Student Council consists of 20 members and they are Sanaa Husain Al Marzouqi, President, Hessa Abdalla Mohamed Ali, Vice President, Mona Ibrahim Mohamed, Secretary, Aamna Seddeeq Mohamed, Treasurer, Amal Salem Saeed, Clubs Coordinator, Aziza Ibrahim, Public Relations Coordinator, Alia Shahab Ahmed Al Sumaiti, Art & Design Coordinator, Alya Mohammed Al Awadhi, Facilities Coordinator, as well as Alia Ali Ahmed Aljanahi, Mariam Nassir, Hind Mohammed, Maha Yaqoot Juma, Sara Al Madani, Mashaikh Ali, Fatma Hassan Rashid. College representatives are, Hamda AlAli, College of I.T., Hanan Tariq AlKhaja, College of Business Science, Shurouq Ahmed, College of Communications and Media Sciences, Mouza Rashed Al Ari, College of Arts and Sciences, and Sara, College of Education.
Accepting a Student Council members depends on the willingness of the student as well a few other rules, including: the student's cumulative GPA must be above 2.5, the student must hand in a reference letter from a professor, as well as being interviewed in order to better understand the student's skills and how prepared she is to work in social and volunteer work and her ability to balance between her studies and her role as a Student Council member, added Khoory.
Aziza Ibrahim, Student Council Public Relations Coordinator, said the Council discussed the proposed plan of activities for the new academic year. The Council participated in the new students orientation program and answered questions about studying at Zayed University from new students and parents. During their meeting, the council members discussed their gained experience from a workshop they attended on how to become a successful work team conducted by Dr. Hussain Al Najjar. The workshop included the importance of team work, types of work teams and how to put goals for the team. The Council also discussed the student club fair that will take place next Tuesday where each club will present their ideas and plans for the academic year and allow students to register in the clubs. 20 clubs are expected to participate in the fair. The Council also discussed "Your Voice is Heard" Campaign which will take place on November 4 of this year, where students can express their opinions and concerns regarding their university life and their comments will be delivered to the university administration who are keen on supporting their students in every way possible. The Council discussed the National Day celebration which will be on December 2.
