The second cohort of Madares Al Ghad School librarians graduated from the Zayed University's School Librarian Training Program. The program is in collaboration with the Ministry of Education to raise performance of library professionals in different education sectors. The graduation ceremony was attended by Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, Zayed University faculty and staff, and members from the Ministry.

Dr. Al Jassim praised the cooperation with the Ministry of Education in many teaching and training fields which aims to enhance the collaboration between the university and the government sectors. This collaboration is part of the university's strategic plan which allows employees to learn from each other's experiences and improve job performance. Zayed University library is unique in its advanced specialized programs and is involved with other libraries from around the world. The library currently contains around 200,000 books and references in different fields, including 41 electronic books.

Dr. Al Jassim added that Zayed University is looking into offering a Masters degree in Library and Documentation Sciences and Archiving Technology in collaboration with international universities.

Pat Wand, Dean of Library and Learning Resources Center at Zayed University, said the 3-month training program is the second in what is hoped to be a long standing arrangement between the Madares Al Ghad program and Zayed University. 20 school librarians participated in the program from schools in Ajman, Sharjah, Um Al Qwain, Ras Al Khamiah, and Fujairah. The graduates attended a series of workshops designed specifically to guide them in establishing and maintaining their school libraries.  They studied topics such as library management, collection development, children's literature, Information Literacy and collaborative teaching.  They also increased their skills in areas such as circulation management, reading programs and policy and procedure writing.  They will be applying their skills in the school libraries which are receiving new resources and furniture as part of their involvement in the Madares Al Ghad program.  Everyone involved in the development and delivery of the program is very pleased with the results and proud of the graduates.
