Policy Research Incentive Plan
The Office of Research, in collaboration with the Institute for Social and Economic Research, announces a special initiative to promote research projects directly tied to government priorities. Faculty are invited to submit proposals to produce articles for peer-reviewed journals on topics taken from or related to the attached list, which will also be posted on ZU’s Research website. These topics are extracted from the policy priorities contained in government strategic plans. They include a wide range of topics on areas ranging across many disciplines and areas of interest, including social sciences, economics, business, culture, health, environment, tourism, and heritage. Proposals for research on other topics not on the list that fall within the interest of the country are also welcomed.
The requirements are as follows:
- Faculty members propose topic and methodology to Dr. Mouawiya Al Awad, ISER Director, who will confirm whether or not the proposed topic addresses a priority area. The proposal should be no longer than 1-2 pages in length, and must be submitted no later than 9 October 2016.
- A maximum of 20 proposals will be accepted for this initiative.
- Each paper will be produced in two stages:
- A working paper, to be posted on a Working Papers website at ZU and distributed to appropriate government offices following a review process. The paper, it is hoped, will generate feedback.
- An article to be published in a high-quality, indexed, peer-reviewed journal. This article will be an expansion and refinement of the working paper, revised in ways that direct it toward a broader scholarly readership.
- Producing papers in these high-priority, policy-oriented areas will be incentivized as follows:
- Upon acceptance and posting as a working paper, the faculty author will receive a stipend of AED 10,000.
- Upon publication in a SCOPUS-listed peer-reviewed journal, the author will receive a further AED 10,000.
ISER, whenever possible, is willing to support these projects by providing data, assisting with government access, or help in identifying possible co-authors outside Zayed University. These policy projects can also be supported by RIF grants, or they can come under one of the research clusters. The purpose of this initiative is to further incentivize research that is clearly oriented toward government priorities in the hope that more of our external constituents will become aware of the quality and relevance of research conducted by ZU faculty.
For any questions about the specific topics, or to submit a proposal, please contact Dr. Mouawiya Al Awad (Mouawiya.AlAwad@zu.ac.ae).
