National Research Foundation

The National Research Foundation (NRF) was established in 2008 to provide research leadership and funding support on a competitive basis to researchers in the UAE.

Successful projects must demonstrate social and economic benefits to UAE, enhance the development process in the country and survive a rigorous international peer review.

The NRF offers two types of grants:

  •  Research Centers of Excellence (REC)

The NRF awarded three institutional level Research Centers of Excellence in 2008.
Zayed University was successful in being awarded the 'UAE Center for Bilingualism and Bilingual Education'.

Funding for an additional three centers is planned to follow.

  •   Research & Scholarship Awards (RSA)

These research grants for individual or small teams are intended to expand the horizon of knowledge, accelerate discoveries, and foster creative activities across all disciplines.  The 2008/09 competitive awards process has been completed, with six ZU researchers being recognised with 'highly competitive' submissions.

It is expected that an annual cycle of application and awards will commence in mid-December of each year.
