Program Overview
The URSP program consists of 5 modules / courses, which run over 2.5 years, as shown in the table here.
Competencies of the Program:
There will be three electronic badges (Bronze – 48 hours of training, Silver – 108 hours, Gold – 168 hours), accessible to any student that completes a training experience in a period of 2.5 years. Students will need to demonstrate competencies in
- Practical skills such as being able to analyze data by using different tools
- Problem-solving, critical thinking and communication skills
- Personal attitudes and professional ethics
- Academic Dissemination
Program outcomes:
By the end of the program, students will be able to:
- Differentiate and categorize various types of research.
- Understand and articulate where research questions arise from, with a particular appreciation of inductive and deductive reasoning
- Formulate, articulate and defend a research design and methodology
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of a variety of data collection methodologies and research designs
- Implement a variety of practical research methodologies both quantitative and qualitative
- Learn about APA style and academic writing and referencing
- Learn how to use SPSS to undertake and interpret a variety of descriptive and inferential statistical analyses
- Analyze data quantitatively and qualitatively
- Discuss results with relevance to previous research studies
- Write a full academic abstract
- Provide a clear and critical review of an academic presentation
- Outline the publication process accurately
- Review a manuscript critically
- Prepare a scientific manuscript
- Receive criticism of their manuscript and provide a response of understanding, or a defense that is clear and respectfully acknowledges the reviewer’s contribution with judicious appreciation
