Zayed University, Dubai, organized the Second Annual Undergraduate Research Conference on Applied Computing (URC 2010) on 6 May 2010. Around 400 specialists, experts and university students from the UAE and GCC countries participated in the 2-day conference, under the sponsorship of Emriates Foundation. The objective of the conference is to provide a forum for undergraduate students to present their research ideas and prototypes and interact with other young researchers, faculty members, and technology leaders from the UAE and other Gulf countries.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice-President of Zayed University, expressed his appreciation of this global initiative that the College of Information Technology faculty have organized for the second year in a row.  Zayed University persists on developing its scientific research under the guidance and support of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, President of Zayed University.

Dr. Al Jassim added that the conference brings new ideas and concepts that aids the expertise to prepare strategies and accomplish quality outputs. Zayed University aims for such initiatives in collaboration with national and international universities and organizations in order to enhance scientific research among students and researchers particularly in cases that concern society.

Dr. Manar Abu Talib, Assistant Professor, College of Information Technology, explained that the college created a committee for this conference, which is chaired by Dr. Leon Jololian, Dean of College of Information Technology, and Associate Professor Dr. Qusay Mahmoud, as well as 15 members from Zayed University faculty and staff. The conference included approximately 100 research topic discussions for students who represent 24 universities in the UAE and abroad. The research discussions comprised of many research ideas and projects of student's creativities  on information technology and how to deal with it and how to apply it. The conference welcomed researchers and their faculty advisors from educational institutions in the Gulf region, namely from Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.
