How do you become a PAL?
Each semester students are recruited for the PALs Program and interested tutor candidates participate in a comprehensive, three step selection process. It is important to note that failure to participate in any round of the selection process will exclude you from consideration for a position in the PALs Program.
Step 1: Application Form
Interested candidates complete an application form outlining their contact details, tutoring or leadership experiences and a reference from a professor at Zayed University. Based upon this information, the candidate may be asked to participate in the next round of the selection process.
Step 2: Group Interview
The purpose of this interview is to gauge how well students work together in a group activity. This activity involves students working in small groups of four to six students. Each group has to work on an activity where through discussion and cooperation, a solution is reached for the group work activity. The use of interpersonal skills and discussion are actively encouraged. Based upon this activity a tutor candidate may be asked to participate in the final step of the selection process.
Step 3: Individual Interview
In this final round of the selection process, the tutor candidate attends an individual interview with a panel of two or three current PALs and the PALs Coordinator. During this interview a candidate’s strengths and personality are gauged to determine the suitability of the candidate for the PALs Program. If a candidate is successful with all three rounds of the selection process, s/he is notified by the PALs Coordinator.
If you are still interested in becoming a Peer Assistance Leader (PAL), please download the application form from here and take your completed form to the PALs Center or to the PALs Coordinator, or a PALs Mentor.
We look forward to welcoming you to the PALs Center as a peer tutor!
