ZU Hosts an Iftar Gathering Ceremony Held in Recognition of the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day
10 Jun 2018Under the patronage of H.E Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qassimi, President of Zayed University, the Youth Happiness, Tolerance, and Positivity Council at the university had recently held a special ceremony in recognition to the Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, entitled "Zayed’s Giving".
The event, which was held at the Zayed University Campus in Abu Dhabi in cooperation with "Hope Circle" a division founded by the H.H Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian and Scientific Foundation, chaired by Sheikha Shama bint Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, it hosted group Iftar to celebrate the occasion. Many ZU faculty and staff members and their families joined the event, which included activities such as taking souvenir pictures in traditional Emirati costumes, and donations to two initiatives by "Hope Circle", namely, ‘Tibun Tegroun’ (Do you want to read) and “Manaret Amal” (a Beacon of Hope).
The 'Tibun Tegroun' initiative aims to help unwell children to recover while reading. The initiative provides reading rooms in a child-friendly atmosphere filled with books and fun games to drive them away from the hospital theme. The initiative has opened 16 reading rooms in most hospitals in the UAE since its founding in 2013.
'Manaret Amal' provides hope to disadvantaged children in countries affected by war, poverty or natural disasters worldwide as they receive boxes containing solar-powered lamps that can be easily used. This initiative focuses on the importance of literacy and education to instil hope in the hearts of thousands of children in our Arab region and the world.
H.E Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi stressed Zayed University's interest in commemorating Zayed Humanitarian Work Day, in recognition of the principles of giving and support laid down by Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and are being followed by the wise leadership and adhered to where necessary around the entire world.
She praised the role played by Sheikha Shama bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan in this regard, for developing innovative and creative initiatives based on the nation’s ongoing care and aid initiatives.
For her Part, Sheikha Shama bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan expressed her sincere appreciation to H.E Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi and Zayed University students for their continuous support to achieve the objectives of the seminar.
She said that Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan has left a "Mark in our hearts in the love of humanitarian work and helping those in need, as we follow in his footsteps."
The event also included a lecture on ‘Zayed's Giving’ by Sheikh Omar Al-Derai, Director of the Fatwa Department of the General Authority for Islamic Affairs and Endowments. About 500 members of the administrative and teaching bodies, students, graduates, university staff and their families participated in the event.
Concluding, H.E Sheikha Lubna Al Qassimi honoured the Zayed University Youth Council for Happiness, Positivity and Tolerance, and the attendees for their partake and contribution.
The event was attended by His Excellency Prof. Reyadh Al Mehaideb, ZU Vice President, Dr Mohsen Onsy, Associate Provost and Chief Academic Officer and Dr Fatima Al Darmaki, Dean of Student Affairs.
