Zayed University Council Adopts New Policies and Dean Appointments
17 Oct 2017Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of State for Tolerance, President of Zayed University, chaired the second University Council meeting at the University's campus in Dubai recently.
The meeting took place in the presence of Council members: His Excellency Ahmad Abdullah Bin Byat, Chairman of Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (du) and Vice-Chairman of Zayed University Council, H.E Riyad Abdul Rahman Al Mubarak, His Excellency Ali Rashid Al Ketbi, Acting Chairman of the Human Resources Authority in Abu Dhabi, His Excellency Ali bin Hamouda Al Dhaheri, His Excellency Sami Ahmad Dhaen Al Qamzi, Director General of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai, Her Excellency Maryam Mohammed Al Rumaithi, Director General of Family Development Foundation, alongside members of the University Council, Prof. Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice-President of Zayed University, and Amal Al Mausam, University Council Secretary.
The meeting discussed the appointment of 10 University Endowment Chairs, to back up the University's efforts in providing a suitable educational environment that encourages creativity and innovation and the development of scientific research. In this regard, the Council approved the appointment of Prof. Dennis Olson as the National Union Bank Chair of Banking Professor. Prof. Olson is a distinguished professor with more than 40 high-quality academic journals, covering various fields of banking, such as Islamic finance, econometric modeling, and corporate finance.
The Council also approved the appointment of new Zayed University Deans, namely: Dr. Fares Howari as Dean of the College of Natural and Health Sciences, Dr. Rana Tamim as Dean of the College of Education and Dr. Belkeis Altareb as Dean of the University College.
Members of the Zayed University Council reviewed the University’s latest developments, which focused on the electronic academic quality assurance systems, upcoming major projects, and went through partnership agreements with community institutions, activities and events that took place over the current year.
The Council approved the university's lists of graduates for the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017, that is 624 bachelor's degree students, and 74 in master's degree, and 356 summer semester graduates.
Concluding, members revised the University's Financial Reports for the years 2015 and 2016 assembled through an externally audited report, which was prepared based on the International Public-Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). The Council also approved several administrative and academic policies to optimize the university's operational plans.
