Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna meets the Latin American and Caribbean Group delegation at Zayed University

Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khalid Al Qasimi , Minister of International Cooperation and Development, President of Zayed University, received a visiting delegation from the Latin American and Caribbean Group (Grulac), under the chairmanship of His Excellency Roberto Leon Ramirez, who is leading a six-country delegation in response to FNC’s official invitation, at Zayed University- Abu Dhabi campus.

Grulac is a geopolitical group in the United Nations that includes the Parliaments of Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Columbia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru Dominican Republic, Surinam and Trinidad, Tobago, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The Group’s objective is to promote peace, security, cooperation among nations, democracy, and respect of human rights.

The visit came as a response to the Federal National Council’s official invitation and aimed at strengthening friendship ties, establishing joint cooperation, exchanging information and expertise, and boosting education and any other matters of mutual interests.

Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna welcomed the delegation’s visit to the UAE, saying it would contribute to supporting the mutual ties between both sides.

The visiting delegation was also greeted by Prof. Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, Dr. Marilyn Roberts, Acting Provost of Zayed University, Dr. Fatima AlDarmaki, Assistant Provost for Student Affairs, and Michael Allen, Assistant Provost for Faculty Affairs and Research, as well as a number of students from the University Student Council, who were an integral part of the meeting.

H.E Sheikha Lubna also briefed the delegation on Zayed University programs, which are focused on liberal arts as well as technology in order to prepare qualified graduates who are able to contribute to building the nation through offering specializations and programs of study which match international standards and providing an excellent learning environment to strengthen the role of the university as a leader in the progress of scientific research and community service.

H.E Sheikha Lubna also highlighted the influential role of the Office of Accessibility at Zayed University, which offers academic and social services in order to help students with special needs completing their studies, expressing their potentials, and contributing dynamically to the Emirati society.

Furthermore, H.E Sheikha Lubna pointed out that Zayed University has earned both international and local accreditations by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and Commission for Academic Accreditation by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, which shows that the institution and programs are up to international standards of which the nation can be proud.  

The delegation were also briefed on research and innovation initiatives held at Zayed University, which immensely contributed to developing the UAE as a knowledge-based society as well as distinguished faculty members, who came from different parts of the world and who are committed to the highest standards that have earned Zayed University a reputation for academic excellence.

Ramirez expressed his pleasure on visiting the UAE and the delegation representatives expressed gratitude to H.E Sheikha Lubna for the hospitality and warm welcome.

The visiting delegation also expressed admiration for the high quality services provided by Zayed University and praised the university’s adoption of the highest global practices in teaching, learning, and research.  Members of the delegation emphasized the importance of building a strong academic ties and education opportunities between Zayed University and other universities in the Latin American and Caribbean countries through strengthening research cooperation and encouraging student exchange programs that offer broad benefits and outcomes including understanding of an array of different cultural and community perspectives.
