Zayed University students win most of the awards in the "Human Rights Short Film" competition
Zayed University’s College of Communication and Media Sciences students won five of nine awards at the Human Rights Short Film Competition launched by the Community Development Authority this year, under the title “Child’s Rights.” The competition’s final round included 42 participants, including both male and female university students from across the country.
The winners received prizes for three different categories that summed up to 110,000 dirhams.
The award distribution ceremony was held at Dubai World Trade Center and was attended by a number of Zayed University faculty and staff members and students, in addition to other attendees from the participating universities.
Professor Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, congratulated the award-winning students for their great achievement, and confirmed the university’s commitment to strengthening the competitiveness of Zayed University students and graduates.
The award included three main categories: Rights to Protection from Abuse, Negligence and Exploitation for Children; Right to Education for Children, and Rights of Children with Disabilities. All videos were submitted in Arabic or English and did not exceed 5 minutes, as required.
The competition presented an opportunity for participants to reflect on an idea or issue derived from the concept of children’s rights, in ways that included video clips with audio and pictures with technical specifications.
The first-place Zayed University winners in the “Right to Protection from Abuse, Negligence and Exploitation” category were Maryam Amer Al Mahri, Sara Abbass and Eman Obaid for their video entitled “A Story of Hope”.
The short film “Sheikha and Mohammed”, by Zayed University students Shaikha Abdulaziz Sayyah and Aisha Abdullah, received the first place award in the “Rights of Children with Disabilities” category.
The film “Unheard Story” by Zayed University Hessa Al-Ajmani and Mariam Al-Kamali won the first place award in “Right to Education for Children” category, whereas second place within the same category went to Zayed University student Mariam Al Mehairi for her film “Education for all”. Finally, the film “It is my Right to Learn” by Zayed University students Hind Hashmi, Noor Al Dosari, and Shaima Ali Mohammed won the third place in the same category.
