1928 new students begin classes at Zayed University
23 Aug 2015Around 1928 new students started classes today at Zayed University in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai Campuses. Zayed University (ZU) has earlier welcomed new students in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses during the academic orientation week event that was held on August 19 and 20 last week.
Parents and guardians were also welcomed at the two-day event, which targeted all new students joining Zayed University this year and helped them become acquainted with various colleges and departments, as well as the University’s mission, regulations, majors, syllabus and cultural activities.
The event started with a welcoming video by Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development and President of Zayed University, in which she greeted new students, congratulated them for joining Zayed University and encouraged them to excel in their academic performance and enhance their social participation.
"As a new student, you will definitely face some academic challenges and obstacles that can be quite demanding; however, you are expected to take responsibility for your own learning and manage your workload. The process requires self-motivation, determination and dedication," H.E Sheikha Lubna said.
The two-day event was also attended by Professor Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, Dr. Marilyn Roberts, Acting Provost, Dr. Abdel Mohsen Onsy, Associate Provost and Chief Academic Officer, in addition to several faculty members and administrative employees.
"Zayed University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), one of six regional accrediting bodies in the United States. Additionally, out of six colleges, five were granted international academic accreditations, which proves that Zayed University is a leading, valuable and worthwhile academic institution that provides high-quality education and achieves positive student learning outcomes," Professor AlMehaideb said.
During the event, Dr. Marilyn has also pointed out that academic advising is the very core of successful institutional efforts to educate and retain students.
"Academic advising is strongly encouraged and recommended during your tenure at ZU. There are enormous opportunities to learn strategies that can develop your academic skills and personal attributes needed to be successful in your college at the university," Dr Marilyn advised students.
