H.E Humza Yousaf, Scotland's Minister for Europe and International Development, visits Zayed University
His Excellency Humza Yousaf, Scotland’s Minister for Europe and International Development, recently met with Zayed University students on Dubai campus.
The meeting was held to hear students’ positive views of Scotland, experience and feedback on the academic training course at the Al-Maktoum Institute for Islamic Studies in Dunde, which saw significant visits conducted to important landmarks.
The meeting took place after His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and UAE Minister of Finance, received female Emirati university students, who have graduated from the training program, which was organized by the Al-Maktoum Institute for Islamic Studies, Dundee, Scotland, at Zabeel Palace in March.
The month long academic training program aimed at broadening the students’ understanding of different cultures and helping them to gain global perspective of leadership skills through lectures, discussions, debates, and workshops that promote interaction between people.
The meeting was attended by Professor Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, who said: “We are extremely pleased to know that Zayed University female students have graduated from a very professional training program, which qualified them to be great leaders and boosted their communication skills to serve their country in the best way possible.”
He also thanked His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum as well as Al Maktoum Foundation for their efforts invested in preparing young students in the key contemporary global issues of multiculturalism, leadership, cultural engagement and global awareness.
The meeting was also attended by H.E Mirza Al Sayegh, Director of the Office of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashind Al Maktoum and Chairman of the Al Maktoum College’s Board of Trustees, who said: “Students served as great role models and honorable ambassadors for their country. They gained intellectual skills and approaches that can help them develop their leadership skills for the particular career path that they may choose in the future especially that the UAE has always been a great supporter for women.”
Headed by His Excellency Humza Yousaf, the Scottish delegation visited the library, Office of Accessibility and Sheikha Latifa Bint Hamdan Al Maktoum Center for student activities on Zayed University’s Dubai campus.
He praised the great achievements made by the UAE in all fields especially in terms of gender equality and the delegation was impressed by the educational, economic and social progress accomplished within a short period of time.
The meeting was also attended by many female students, who were part of the one-month training program abroad, from different universities such as Abu Dhabi University, American University of Sharjah, Higher Colleges of Technology, UAE University, British University in Dubai and College of Islamic and Arabic Studies in Dubai.
