The appointment of Professor Reyadh Almehaideb as Vice President of Zayed University

Zayed University President Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Bint Khaled Al Qasimi announced yesterday the appointment of the new Vice President to the ZU community.

The announcement is as noted below.

Dear ZU Community Members,

I am pleased to inform you that His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed, President of the United Arab Emirates Issued decree No. 88 of 2014 regarding the appointment of Professor Reyadh Almehaideb as Vice President of Zayed University.

I am delighted to have Professor Almehaideb join the University and very confident that he will contribute to the progress and advancement of ZU university.

Professor Almehaideb earned his doctorate in Petroleum Engineering from Stanford University, USA, in June 1989, and joined the Department of Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the UAE University as an Assistant Professor in the same year. He was promoted to Associate Professor in December 1997, and to Professor in January 2005. He received the UAEU Award for Excellence in Scientific Research and Community Service in 2003, the Best Externally Funded Research Project in 2006, and the Dubai Culture and Science Association - Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Award for Emirati Professors in 2011.

Before joining ZU, Professor Almehaideb was the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Graduate Studies at the UAE University since 2013 overlooking the administrative aspects of internally and externally funded research projects with the various industrial and community organizations, the UAEU research centers, and the master and doctorate programs offered by the university. In addition, Professor Almehaideb served as the Dean of Engineering (2006-2013), Associate Dean (1999-2006), Chairman of the Chemical and Petroleum Engineering Department (1997-1999 & 2003-2005), and as Director of the Technology and Energy Research Center (1989-1991). As Dean, he supervised preparations for the College of Engineering’s Bachelor programs accreditation by ABET in 2010.

Professor Almehaideb’s other contributions included heading the committees to establish two master programs, in “Water Resources” and in “Petroleum Science and Engineering”, participation in the joint Scientific Committee between UAE university and Sultan Qaboos University for the joint research projects since 2003, participation in the Masdar Research Network between 2007-2009, and as a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal “Energy” issued by OPEC. He was a member of the UAE University Council from 1994 to 1998, and since 2006 has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute of Applied Technology, heading the Academic Committee.

Professor Almehaideb contributed as principal investigator in six industrial research projects, five of which funded by the national and international oil companies. He published 33 research papers in scientific journals and 45 articles presented at scientific conferences, including 11 on education and research, and contributed to numerous panel discussions on the role of education and scientific research in various industrial fields. He is a reviewer for several international scientific journals in Petroleum Engineering.

Professor Almehaideb’s proven leadership, focus on students, commitment to high standards, and dedication to the development of the UAE will be great strengths to Zayed University as we work to accomplish our important mission.
