Zayed University celebrates the World Energy Day by launching ZEIN
28 Oct 2013Zayed University has celebrated World Energy Day with an array of activities on both its campuses in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
Exactly one year after the first World Energy Day was staged in Dubai (an event at which 89 United Nations member states adopted The Dubai Declaration – Energy for All), Zayed University commemorated the first anniversary by launching a number of initiatives.
Hosted by the College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities, students had a chance to learn about energy conservation, and many of them participated in an energy-related quiz designed to highlight the importance of energy conservation and sustainability. Representatives of the Center of Waste Management, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company (ADDC) and Masdar also gave presentations in Abu Dhabi, while Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) sponsored the Dubai campus event.
In another attempt to engage the entire University community in energy conservation activities, the Zayed Environmental Initiative Network (ZEIN) was launched.
“ZEIN will play a key role, in collaboration with organizations across the UAE, in promoting sustainable practices and policies related to the environment and wellbeing of communities”, said Dr Chris Southgate, the Dean of ZU’s College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities.
