Zayed University's Institute for the Arabic Language offers new academic programs
22 Nov 2012Zayed University unveiled yesterday the new academic programs that the new Institute for the Arabic Language is offering. The initiative comes from the University's continuous effort to advance the leadership role it plays in supporting Arabic Language and to tackle the challenges the language faces in this globalized era.
Dr.Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, said: “This Initiative comes from the devotion and vision of the UAE’s Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and by our UAE leaders to embrace our national identity.
His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of Zayed University assigned the tasks of the Institute to three main elements:
- First, to attract Arabic Language learners from different parts of the world, by using advanced teaching techniques to teach Arabic to non-Arabic speakers, which makes Zayed University the hub for Arabic learning seekers;
- Second, to improve the curriculum in order to keep up with the needs and challenges of the job market; and
- Third, to offer innovative programs at the University through baccalaureate and higher education programs that support the university’s vision in maintaining excellent learning outcomes, such as having the students fully qualified to enter the workforce and able to perfect both their Arabic and English.
Dr. Obaid Al Muhairi, Executive Director, Institute for the Arabic Language, Zayed University, said: “The institute will play an important role in developing the Arabic Language through all educational stages locally and worldwide by collaborating with specialized parties and researchers to develop the language and positively contributing to the teaching techniques that make the Arabic language more appealing to both youngsters and adults. The institute aims to enable students to use the language properly in different work sectors and simplify various communicating skills.”
Dr. Al Muhairi added: “The institute is preparing to launch a new Master Program in Translation besides many other Graduate Programs in various areas that will be announced soon, in addition to specialized programs in modern methods and techniques in the teaching of English Language in schools and teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. Some of these programs will be shared with prestigious international universities in their respective areas.”
