ZU Basketball Team is Getting Ready to Participate in the BWCU which will be held in Spain

Preparations are currently underway for ZU Basketball Team to participate in the World Basketball Tournament for Universities, which will commence in Valencia, Spain - next October.  This will be the 2nd consecutive participation, after the one which took place last year, in Milano - Italy, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.  That was the first time for a university team from the GCC countries to participate in Basketball World Cup Tournaments.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice-President of Zayed University, along with Dr. Dan Johnson, met a number of ZU students who are members in the basketball and the football teams for girls who explained the successful performance displayed by both teams in their local, regional and international competition.  Dr. Al Jassim praised the care and attention provided by H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and expressed his appreciation of students' participation in international championships which encourage them to have more confidence and experience to compete in international events.

On her part, Noora Khalid, President of both ZU students' basketball & football  teams, explained that ZU team has participated this year in 4 competitions, where ZU Team ranked 3rd out of 8 competing universities and clubs.  The Team also ranked 1st among the Country's institutions of higher education. While it ranked 3rd in the ladies women basketball competition, in addition to its participation in the Students' Basketball International Competition which was held in Italy.  Moreover, preparations are currently underway for ZU Basketball Team to participate in the World Basketball Tournament for Universities, which will be held in Spain next October.

Noora Khalid added that ZU Ladies Football Team participated in 4 tournaments this year, whereby it ranked 2nd in the GCC Universities' Competition which was hosted by the Armed Forces Club in Abu Dhabi; it won the championship of the GCC Universities & Institutions of Higher Education; in addition to winning the championship of the competition hosted by Zayed University - Dubai Campus - in which several UAE universities and clubs participated.
