Zayed University Council discusses new initiatives

Zayed University Council has held it's 9th annual meeting yesterday (3rd November 2009), under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research President of Zayed University and in the presence of the council members H.E. Ahmed Humaid Al Tayer Chairman of Emirates National Bank of Dubai, H.E. Saeed Mubarak Rashid Al Hajeri Executive Director, Emerging Market- Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, Dr.Amal Al Qubaisi, Member of Federal National Council and Dr.Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President of Zayed University.

The meeting which was held on Zayed University's Abu Dhabi campus discussed several initiatives including the proposal to approve the appointment of Dr. John W. Seybolt as Dean of the College of Business Sciences, and the proposal to approve the appointment of Dr. Richard Tucker, as Director of Institutional Research, in addition to ratification of the Bachelor of Arts  and Bachelor of Sciences graduates of the first semester of the academic year 2008 -2009.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President of Zayed University said that the university council meeting discussed the expected projections of students to join Zayed University within the upcoming years,  in addition to discussions about the Endowment Fund of Zayed University.

His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research President of Zayed University and the university council members also attended the launch of "Let's Plant the UAE Together" campaign which was initiated by Desert Group and held at the University's Abu Dhabi  campus.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim explained that this initiative is in line with the university's policy of cooperation with social authorities and other establishments in different fields. He added: "The collaboration with Desert Group in this unique initiative that  serves the needs and aspirations of people with special needs to be integrated within the community embodies the university's cultural and scientific role in the society.

On his part, Ali Badi - Desert Group Board Member said: "Let's Plant the UAE Together" is campaign initiated by Desert Group to help raise awareness about special needs capabilities within UAE's workforce through showcasing their abilities in educating the public on how to plant and maintain fruit trees. Zayed University is one of the most prominent educational institutions in the UAE, that offers the highest level of education to national youth not only through theoretical knowledge and professional experiences but also through indulging them in societal causes and directing them towards national social duties. Therefore we found our alliance to be most suited and will be well channeled in order to achieve our goal."
