Students from Zayed University (ZU) from the College of Business (CoB) have recently prevailed in two trading competitions: ADNOC-Bloomberg UAE Trading Challenge 2022 and the HSBC-Rotman Environmental Social and Governance (ESG) Trading Initiative, 2022.
The finance students from CoB, ZU have recently achieved the 3rd place in the ADNOC-Bloomberg UAE Trading Challenge 2022. The final qualifiers for the challenge witnessed exciting competitions between students from Khalifa University, UAE University, Zayed University and Abu Dhabi University. This initiative comes within the framework of efforts to support the next generation of young thinkers in the UAE, with the participation of more than 230 students from 7 universities.
Zayed University challenge participants have generated the highest return amongst the teams that participated Bloomberg Trading Challenge and entered the Energy Investment Academy. Energy Investment Academy participants attended webinars delivered by Bloomberg Professionals on Oil, Gas, and Renewable Energy, prepared a final report, presented it in front of a large audience, and answered several questions from three referees. Our students won three-month internships at the ADNOC Trading Centre in Abu Dhabi and prizes worth more than $1000 as a result of their participation in the contest.
In another competition, two groups of Zayed University students from College of Business won two awards in the HSBC-Rotman ESG Trading Initiative. One group won the 3rd place in the competition and received an award of $4000, while another group won the Best ESG Portfolio Manager Award and received a prize of $1000. The initiative was organized by HSBC Middle East and University of Toronto-Rotman School of Management. 47 teams from different universities in the Middle East competed over the course of four months. The competition provided students a hands-on experience in managing a socially responsible investment portfolio.
Although the organizers supported the students with a variety of tools, ZU students have also utilized the Zayed University Bloomberg labs, for their stock search. “We are truly grateful for having access to such an important resource for faculty and students. It seems that 2021/2022 academic year has been a thrilling one with many accomplishments of our students in finance in different stock competitions,” said one of the finance faculty who supervised a team for the competition.
Dr. Fatima Al Ali, Acting Dean of the College of Business added that, “At the CoB, we collectively work to action innovation in teaching methodologies, research and engagement with our stakeholders to make a difference in the community, under our mission and strategic goals. As we embark into the 2022-2023 academic year, we inspire to make significant progress towards supporting the University’s plan for transformation and the UAE’s knowledge-based economy.”
College of Business and the COB Department of Finance have provided continuous support in both competitions and helped the students to flourish and learn in international settings.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Education signed an MOU in 2019 with ADNOC and Bloomberg to implement and develop a training program aimed at providing Emirati students with the specialized financial skills necessary to excel in the world of business and finance.
