Zayed University organizes Orientation Days for new students

Zayed University welcomed a total of 191 prospective students on both its campuses  in Abu Dhabi and Dubai this week in a two-day orientation program that aims to introduce them and their parents to Zayed University’s student life and provide them with the useful academic information needed for them to smoothly transition to Zayed University’s new and exciting academic and cultural setting and commence their educational journey successfully on January 17.  

Out of the 191 new students,  Zayed University is welcoming around 31 international students who will bring their experience, backgrounds, and cultures to both its campuses.  

The event started off with a welcome video from Her Excellency Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development and President of Zayed University, in which she encouraged students to commit to the highest standards of conduct and academic excellence and benefit from the high quality education and exceptional services provided at Zayed University to develop personally and professionally.

The two-day event was also attended by Prof. Reyadh AlMehaideb, Vice President of Zayed University, Dr. Marilyn Roberts, Acting Provost, Dr. Fatima AlDarmaki, Assistant Provost for Student Affairs, and Shamsa Al Taie, Director of Student Affairs.

Prof. AlMehaideb welcomed new students and congratulated them on joining Zayed University affirming that the university has always been committed to provide a unique and supportive learning environment in order to encourage its students to excel in their academic performance, overcome obstacles and challenges, and develop their sense of patriotism and belonging.

“Education is the key to success in life. Successful education can definably leave a great lasting impact on the lives of our young students and qualify them to participate in the UAE’s development process. Consequently, we have encouraged and motivated our students to live a fruitful and productive university life through excelling in their academic performance and participating in extracurricular activities that challenge them, reinforce their creative skills, and strengthen their social responsibility spirit,” AlMehaideb said.

The event also displayed an introductory video about Zayed University and its undergraduate and postgraduate programs and offices.

It introduced students to 25 undergraduate programs in arts and creative enterprises, business, communication and media sciences, sustainability sciences and humanities, education, technological innovation among  many others. Additionally, it displayed a comprehensive portfolio of market-driven graduate programs, which prepares highly committed and motivated participants for productive roles. Around 12 graduate programs in business, communication and media sciences, education, sustainability and humanities, and technological innovation are on offer to equip students with a wide set of diverse skills, capabilities as well as unique insights that they would need in order to succeed in their future careers.

Furthermore, new students were introduced to the university’s different offices. For instance,  the Office of Accessibility, which offers academic and social services in order to help students with special needs to complete their studies, participate in several activities, and contribute actively to the Emirati society.  

As part of “Ya Hala” orientation event, student ambassadors and volunteers conducted campus tours for students and provided them with useful tips on how to settle in at Zayed University.

Shamsa Al Taei welcomed new students and said: “Zayed University expects a lot of effort from each student. You have big responsibilities on your shoulders and many challenges to face in order to achieve distinction. I encourage all students to perform their duties and take their responsibilities seriously and earnestly. I also motivate all of them to communicate with faculty members and other colleagues in order to benefit from all available services and opportunities at the university.”

Shamsa has also pointed out that Zayed University recently launched the Oxford Medical Center in Abu Dhabi campus to improve the health and safety of Zayed University students.

“In line with the ‘Arab Reading Challenge’ initiative of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, Zayed University will establish a reading club in efforts to encourage students to read more and on continuous basis throughout the academic year,” Shamsa added.

Zayed University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE). It has rigorous academics that earned 5 of its 6 colleges international accreditation or recognition. Zayed University faculty and students have produced quality scholarly work that is regularly noticed and recognized, all of which has contributed to the University’s continued institutional accreditation from the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE), and now the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research ( MOHESR).
