Zayed University's College of Business earns an International Accreditation

17 Jun 2013

Dr. Maitha bint Salem Al Shamsi, Minister of State and President of Zayed University, praised the new international accreditation that Zayed University recently earned from AACSB International (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business). This accreditation represents the highest achievement for an educational institution that awards business degrees.

Dr. Al Shamsi highlighted the importance of this achievement, as less than five percent of the world's business programs have earned this accreditation, and have met the all the criteria and advanced education practices that it requires. “This achievement reflects the vision and the unlimited support to education by the wise leadership, President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Their Highnesses, the Supreme Council member and rulers of the emirates, and His Highness General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Zayed University has always strived to implement the best educational practices that are adopted by top international educational institutions, and earning the AACSB International accreditation reaffirms the superior quality of education that Zayed University College of Business is offering our students.”

Dr. Al Shamsi also praised the efforts that H.E Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Youth, Culture and Community development, has long invested in the field of higher education, and commended the guidance he has provided, and the initiatives he has undertaken to help position higher education institutions in the UAE amongst international higher education institutions.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, said: “This accreditation ranks Zayed University amongst international universities of excellence. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctorate degrees in business and accounting. One of its main missions is to advance quality management education worldwide through accreditation, thought leadership, and value-added services. The fact that Zayed University College of Business has earned this accreditation is a great accomplishment that students, faculty and staff are very proud of.

Achieving this accreditation is a process of rigorous internal review, evaluation, and adjustment and can take several years to complete. During these years, Zayed University developed and implemented a plan to meet the AACSB Accreditation Standards, which required a high-quality teaching environment, a commitment to continuous improvement, and curricula responsive to the needs of businesses”, added Dr. Al Jassim.

ZUDr. John Seybolt, Dean of Zayed University College of Business, said: “This is the ultimate seal of international quality for business schools. Potential students use it as a guide to whether a business school is of high international quality or not. Business schools use it when they are considering whether or not they want to partner with a certain business school.  Employers use it when they are on the hunt for potential hires.  In other words it sets an international benchmark of excellence for business schools that is critically important when individuals and organizations are deciding whether or not to associate with a specific a business school.”

“The criteria cover virtually all facets of a business school, from the quality and background of faculty, the quality of programs, the quality of students, the partnerships with corporate and government organizations and other business schools, its finances, its strategic planning mechanisms, how it assesses the quality of its programs, its alumni activities, the kinds of research faculty do, the kinds of extracurricular activities for students, its international programs and exposure, the kinds of jobs its graduates get, its interactions with its many external constituents and many more”, added Dr. Seybolt.

“It is an honor to have a group of faculty, staff and students who have worked so hard to help ensure that we could achieve this accreditation.  The College of Business aspires to be the most highly respected business school in the region because of the quality of its programs, students and faculty.  Receiving this accreditation from the world's foremost business school accrediting agency is a key factor in helping us ultimately attain this aspiration.  It is gratifying to know that the quality of what we do and how we do it is now recognized internationally in this way.  Our students, alumni and constituents throughout the UAE now have one more reason to be proud of their College of Business”, he concluded.
