Zayed University Council meets under the chairmanship of H.E Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan

Zayed University Council held a meeting this morning under the chairmanship of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research President of Zayed University, and in the presence of the council members Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, and Dr. Larry Wilson, Provost of Zayed University.

The meeting which was held on Zayed University's Abu Dhabi campus discussed the expansion of the College of Arts and Sciences into two colleges: the College of Arts & Creative Enterprises, and the College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities.

The College of Arts and Creative Enterprises will be offering a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Art and Design with specializations in Animation, Graphic Design, Interior Design, and Visual Art, in addition to a Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Multimedia Design offered jointly with the College of Technological Innovation and the College of Communication and Media Sciences.

The College of Sustainability Sciences and Humanities, on the other hand, will be offering a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in International Studies with Specializations in Culture and Society, and International Affairs, a Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Health Sciences with a specialization is Public Health and Nutrition, a Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Environmental Science and Sustainability, in addition to a Bachelor of Arts (B.A) in Emirati Studies offered jointly with the College of Communication and Media Sciences, and a Bachelor of Science (B.S) in Psychology and Human Services offered jointly with the College of Education.

The University Council also confirmed the name change of the College of Business Sciences, which will now be known as the “College of Business”, in order to better adhere to the international practices adopted by Business Schools worldwide, and to better align with the academic programs that are offered by the College.  Furthermore, the University council confirmed the name change of the College of Information Technology, which will now be knows as the “College of Technological Innovation”, as the College’s programs are developing by the day to cover further academic and research programs in different fields related to Information Technology.

The University Council also announced the launch of two new Zayed University Institutes: the Institute for the Development of Human Capital and the Institute for the Development of the Western Region.

The Institute for the Development of Human Capital will address the issue of unemployment amongst Emirati Nationals and will aim to provide new knowledge and methods to bring unemployment to a minimum, whilst offering programs designed to cater to the employment needs of both the public and private sectors.

The Institute for the Development of the Western Region will aim to identify and implement strategies supportive of the Western Region’s educational and research development.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President of Zayed University said that Zayed University will also be introducing a Master of Arts (M.A) in Muslim Women Studies, and a Master of Arts (M.A) in Comparative Religion , both of which will fall under the Institute for Islamic World Studies.
