ZU Emirates Robotics Club achieves Gold Medal

05 May 2010

Yet another victory for Zayed University has been achieved last week, when the ZU Emirates Robotics Club made a remarkable achievement of winning the gold medal in the Robotics Skills category at the Emirates Skills National Competition (ESNC 2010) that was held in the Abu Dhabi campus of the Institute of Applied Technology on 27 and 28 April, 2010.

The Robotics Club at ZU participated in ESNC's Robotics category for the first time, and was represented by a team of two members from the club: Maryam Mohamed Abdulla & Fatima Mohamed Ibrahim. It is worth mentioning that, Maryam and Fatima were the only females who competed in this category against eight other teams, each composed of two male students.

Other categories at the ESNC 2010 in which students from different institutions in the UAE competed were Graphic Design, Web Design, IT-PC Software Applications, IT-PC Network Support, AutoCAD, Electric Installation, Robotics, Mechatronics, and CNC Machining. The winners were awarded bronze, silver, and gold medals in addition to being nominated to participate in the International Skills Competition that is planned to be held in London in February 2011.

Emirates Robotics Club at Zayed University was established in February 2010. The club helps students learn and develop technical and problem solving skills in the field of robotics. Remarkably, the founders of the club Maryam Mohamed, Khadijah Al Mehari, Fatima Al Ali, Hamda Al Ali, Amna Al Naami, Rowdha Mohamed, and the president  Eman Obaid; were able to learn the principles of assembling and programming robots in  a short period of time. The club runs under the generous support and guidance of the Emirati expert in robotics Mohammad Al Shamsi, and the College of Information Technology at ZU.
