Zayed University and Edinburgh University conclude program in Festival and Event Management

15 delegates from different organizations in the tourism and event management sector recently completed a 4 day course of an Executive Management program in Festival and Event Management, which was offered by Zayed University's Institute of Community Engagement (ICE) in collaboration with The Edinburgh Institute for Festival and Event Management (EIFEM).

The program which was launched on Zayed University's Abu Dhabi campus, aims to enhance the participants theoretical and practical skills required to create and deliver various types of events that will enable them to excel in different sectors such as tourism, hotels and hospitality , festival and event industry in the UAE.

Commenting on the importance of the 4 day course, Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim Vice President of Zayed University said: "After Abu Dhabi's recent success in delivering several high profile, world-class prestigious events such as the FIFA Club World Cup, and Etihad Formula 1 Grand Prix, there was an increased need of highly trained festival and event professionals in the UAE and the region who will be able to cater to the booming industries of tourism, festival and event management".

He added: "Zayed University's Institute of Community Engagement in partnership with Edinburgh Institute launched this program in response to those needs, and as part of our continuous mission in making available our academic and research resources to members of the community, whether they are students, executives, or working professionals".

Dr. Christopher Shove Executive Director of Institute of Community Engagement (ICE) said: "The 4 day course gave the 15 participants a great opportunity to learn about the dynamic international festival and event environment from Edinburgh Napier University, a key player in festival and event education, training and research".

"The program content which highly benefited it's participants, focused on the design and delivery of events, marketing, public relations and sponsorship,  event production and risk management,  in addition to financial management of events, monitoring, control and operational planning for events evaluation", added Dr.Shove.

Dr. Jane Ali-Knight, Member of the EIFEM and one of the instructors of the course said : "The enthusiasm and interest shown by the course delegates was extremely positive news for Abu Dhabi's rapidly expanding festival and events industry. Professional programs of this kind are a critical step in the development of a local resource base for the industry and are necessary for its future success in bidding and attracting events to the region."

Based on the success of the program, and due to the positive response it has generated from the Emirati festival and event management professionals, Zayed University's Institute of Community Engagement (ICE) is currently working on offering the course on campus in Dubai sometime during the upcoming academic year.
