Zayed University Offers New Undergraduate and Graduate Majors

Zayed University is currently preparing to open new  majors for undergraduate and graduate degrees in the next academic year 2010-2011, which will begin on 19 September. The new majors include Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of Arts in Emirati Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences joint with the College of Communications and Media Sciences, and Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Design in the College of Information Technology joint with the College of Communications and Media Sciences and College of Arts and Sciences.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, said the new majors are part of the academic strategy at Zayed University. The courses offered at the university are linked to society's interests and the market needs.  These new majors will expand the students knowledge and add to their skills which will be reflected in their job performance when they join the workforce. The new offered majors were part of the University Council's decision in their recent meeting, chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education & Scientific Research, President of Zayed University.

Dr. Al Jassim added that the Master of Arts in Diplomacy and International Studies is a 30 credit hour course that is offered in order to train the new generations in the field of diplomacy which has become a critical area of study. This will be a continuation to the success of the Graduate Certificate in Diplomacy and International Affairs which was offered at the university in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and which helped enhance the performance of the participants who gained theoretical and practical experience.

The Bachelor of Science in Multimedia Design will fill the need for the development of media performance which is continuously changing and developing. It is important to have professional nationals who can bring new ideas and initiatives to the table in the different areas of media, he added.

The Bachelor of Arts in Emirati Studies is based on theoretical and practical knowledge from two colleges, College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Communications and Media Sciences. This enables the students to gain a comprehensive course in the culture and history of the UAE. Graduates of this subject will be able to work in fields of cultural design and advertising and tourism which is a growing market and in need of qualified workers. This will also enhance their national identity and belongingness through modern scientific studies, he added.
