There is a growing need for highly trained legal professionals as lawyers, judges, assistant judges, and court-room prosecutors etc. with a qualified law degree in the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf States. Increasing socio-economic and cultural complexities require skilled legal practitioners with an integrated and sophisticated understanding of the theories, concepts and practices of justice that determine the rule of law.

The Master of Legal and Judicial Studies program that is offered in Arabic aims to enable students to study in-depth the theoretical and practical legal and judicial issues of law that have not been covered at the undergraduate level, and to provide students with a set of basic skills to practice legal and judicial work across various disciplines within the social and cultural context of UAE society. The Master of Legal and Judicial Studies program represents the vital field in which legal practitioners, judges, prosecutors, and lawyers carry out their work and perform their mission.

Professional Outcomes

Master of Legal and Judicial Studies graduates will be able to successfully handle and deal with judicial administration and affairs in public and private law.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the Master of Legal and Judicial Studies program, students will be able to: 

1. Analyze the new issues in legal studies to form an appropriate legal opinion.

2. Evaluate judicial procedures efficiently and effectively through proper implementation of laws.

3. Clarify evidence and proofs by applying the principles of justice and fairness.

4. Understand the legal issues and their evidence as presented, to justify and put appropriate reasons to verdicts, in compliance with the provisions and the spirit of the law.

5. Explain legal provisions and codes of honor related to ethical practice, regardless of personal stands.

6. Analyze correctly and independently the challenges that may affect the justice’s process.

7. Suggest proper solutions to practical cases.

Curriculum

Orientation Seminar

At the beginning of the Master of Legal and Judicial Studies program, students are required to attend an orientation seminar to introduce the University and its resources, the program and communication and virtual classroom software such as BlackBoard Learn and Collaborate, MS Outlook, Extranet, and Bannerweb.

Program Delivery

Program Duration

The Master of Legal and Judicial Studies program is delivered in Arabic over 4 semesters at Zayed University located in Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

Course Delivery Format

Courses are delivered in 8-week terms.  Classes are generally scheduled on weeknights – Mondays through Thursdays – starting at 4:30 PM.  Each course meets once each week.

Faculty

Courses in the Master of Legal and Judicial Studies program are taught by select professors from the College of Humanities and Social Sciences who are experts in their fields and possess diverse international research experience.

Knowledge gained during classes is further enhanced by sharing real-world experience with other students, guest lecturers, top professionals and leaders in the field of law and judicial administration.

    • An earned baccalaureate degree in a discipline considered appropriate to the graduate program from an accredited university recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 point scale or equivalent in one of the following areas:

      Law, or

      Sharia and Law,

      or Police + Law
