Admission Requirements

Admission of male and female national and international students to Zayed University master’s programs and graduate certificates is subject to minimum academic and, in some instances, work experience standards which are defined by the Office of Graduate Studies. Colleges may set higher admission standards for specific programs.

Prerequisites

  • Applicants must have an earned four-year baccalaureate degree from an accredited university with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 point scale (or equivalent).
  • Applicants to master's degree programs offered in Arabic must be proficient in the Arabic language.
  • Applicants to master's degree programs offered in English must meet one of the following English language requirements:

♦ An IELTS (Academic) overall band score of not less than 6.0 (The College of Education requires minimum sub scores no less than 5.0), or

♦ An internet-based TOEFL total score of not less than 79 iBT, or

♦ A native speaker of English with an earned baccalaureate degree from a university in which English is the language of instruction and which is located in a country where English is an official language.

An English language proficiency test result is normally considered valid if the test has been taken no more than two years prior to the admission deadline of the graduate program the applicant is applying for.

  • Executive Masters degree applicants:

Applicants must demonstrate suitable professional proficiency equivalent to at least three years of mid- to upper-level supervisory experience. Applicants must demonstrate disciplinary competence.

  • Master of Finance and Master of Management in International Business degree applicants:

Applicants must have a basic knowledge of accounting, economics, finance and statistics prior to gaining entry into the master's degree program. Applicants may therefore be required to successfully complete appropriate pre-program courses at the discretion of the Graduate Program Admissions Committee. Applicants requiring pre-program courses are subject to an additional fee. Applicants who have completed the equivalent courses at institutions at the tertiary level may be exempted from this requirement.

  • Specialized Disciplinary Knowledge

Applicants for master's degree programs requiring specialized disciplinary knowledge at the baccalaureate level may be required to successfully complete selected pre-program courses. Applicants requiring pre-program courses are subject to an additional fee.

 Other Admission Requirements

  • Transcript/Degree Certificate

Applicants are required to submit an official transcript with an English translation (if necessary) from the university granting the degree. Transcripts in Arabic should be translated into English. The transcript should indicate the degree and when it was received. If the transcript does not include this information, an official degree certificate must be submitted.

If the degree is awarded by a foreign university, a letter from the U.A.E. Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research recognizing the degree must be submitted.

Please note that equalization documents for all non UAE degrees used to meet requirements for graduate program admission are now a necessary component of the application package.  No applications for graduate program admission can be processed without this critical document.

  • Essay

Applicants, other than Education degree/graduate certificate applicants, are required to submit a 250-word essay in English (or in Arabic for graduate programs offered in Arabic) stating how the graduate program would support their career goals. Hand written essays will not be accepted.

Education degree/graduate certificate applicants are required to write two essays in English as part of the application. Limit each essay to two print pages using 12 pt. font.

  1. Describe your aptitude and motivation for graduate study in education, including your preparation for this field of study, your academic plans, and your future career goals.
  2. Discuss how your personal background informs your decision to pursue the education program of your choice. Please include relevant educational, familial, cultural, economic or social experiences, challenges, or opportunities and discuss potential contributions to the improvement of education.
  • Writing Sample

In addition to the essay, Master of Arts (M.A.) in Communications and Master of Arts (M.A.) in Diplomacy and International Affairs degree/graduate certificate applicants are required to include a writing sample in English. Limit the writing sample to five print pages in 12 pt. font.

  • Confidential Letters of Recommendation

Applicants must submit online the names of two referees who will write the confidential letters of personalized, professional or academic recommendation in English (or in Arabic for graduate programs offered in Arabic) on their behalf. One letter should be from the applicant's current line manager/supervisor. An applicant who does not have work experience may provide two academic letters of reference. The second letter should preferably be from a teacher or other education provider.

  • Admissions Interview

Once applicants submitted their completed applications, supplemental documents and receipts of the payment of the non-refundable application fee online, the Admissions Office will conduct a preliminary screening to determine if the applicants meet the minimum general admission requirements appropriate to the program they are applying for. They then will be invited to attend a personal interview in English (or in Arabic for graduate programs offered in Arabic) with the Graduate Program Admissions Committee to confirm interest in the program, academic preparedness and suitability of the program to the applicant's career goals. International applicants may request to be interviewed by video conference.
