Committees of the Council
University Council is assisted in its work by two key standing committees: The Audit and Risk Committee and the Academic Affairs Committee. Collectively these two committees will enhance the purpose and advance the productivity of the full Council (the establishment of these two committees was approved by the Council in its first meeting in April 2014). Purpose and responsibilities:
I. The Audit and Risk Committee is responsible for recommending to the Council ways and means for increasing the efficiency and the effectiveness of policies and regulations that are being used to manage, control, and monitor university processes and functions. In addition, the committee is charged to act on behalf of the Council in overseeing and assessing the extent of university-wide adherence to plans and programs for internal control and risk management and mitigation.
II. The purpose of the Academic Affairs Committee is to ensure that academic programs, and research and community service activities are consistent with the University’s mission and strategies, that the academic priorities are reflected in both academic budget and policies and procedures, and that effectiveness of academic programs are regularly assessed for conformity to local and international standards.
III. The Committee’s roles, authorities and responsibilities cover the Emiratization and Human Resources over all the University’s operations. The Committee shall understand the University’s organization structure along with the Human Resources policies and procedures, scope, framework and activities at the University in the current environment, and shall perform the following:

Approve HR policies.

Final approval for appointing any Director/Senior appointment.

Final Approval for Emiratization Plan

Review and endorse the Emiratization strategy, initiatives and plans as developed by the Human Resources Department in collaboration with the University’s management, before submitting them to the UC for approval.

Oversee the implementation of the Emiratization plans.
