Online Learning Setup
We hope everyone is now well versed with the online teaching and learning experience and most of you have had numerous sessions as part of your courses. We have outlined some tips based on the type of queries we have been receiving through our various channels, and would recommend that these be looked into when you join or start an online classroom session.
-
Advise students to switch off camera when not needed.
-
Advise attendees to mute mic if not used/not talking. Also,we recommend to use headset if possible.
-
Warn students that streaming videos (e.g. Netflix, YouTube) or downloading large files by others in their network could impact their online lesson quality.
-
During screen sharing, switch off camera and use audio only.
-
Do not use a photograph for a Connect Room background.
-
Remove any photo backgrounds on your computer desktop when screen sharing.
-
Choose Medium or Standard bandwidth settings, regardless of your network capabilities to cover the attendees with lower bandwidths (Meeting>Preferences> Video and Meeting>Preferences>Screen Share).
-
Connect to the Internet directly. No VPNs.
-
For attendees to have better seamless experience, please use Adobe Connect application. Attendees connected using the HTML client-browser may encounter some limitations (see Adobe connect capabilities on HTML5) and must meet below requirements
-
a. Windows - Google Chrome (v70.0 & above), Mozilla Firefox (v65.0 & above), and Edge (v42.0 & above)
-
b. Mac - Google Chrome (v70.0 & above), Apple Safari (v12.0 & above), and Mozilla Firefox (v65.0 & above)
-
-
We recommend to use Chrome browser instead of FireFox to launch Adobe Connect Application.
-
If you are sharing video links for your recorded session, please ensure that the access type for these are made as public ( access code – optional) and not private. This will ensure that the student are able to view the recording without any issues. The tip sheet for the same is available here
-
Always choose "Meeting > End Meeting" at the end of every online class session. This will force all participants out of the room (In the menu bar, select Meeting > End Meeting).
While connecting or starting a session, ensure that the connectivity indicator is fully green as shown in the image below next to Help, since anything lower than that. i.e. red or orange means the connectivity is not reliable and you will experience lag or latency in the connection.
We are daily monitoring your feedbacks/queries and continuously working to make your online learning experience better. We request you to continue to forward your queries and issues to IT.ServiceDesk@zu.ac.ae and the team will provide you the support as needed.
