H.E. Sheikh Dr Ali Gomaa

H.E. Sheikh Dr Ali Gomaa is a professor of Juristic Methodologies at al-Azhar University. He received his MA and Ph. D from the University Al-Azhar in Egypt.
In 2003 Sheikh Ali was appointed Grand Mufti of Egypt. Since taking on the position he has revolutionized the process of issuing fatwas in Egypt transforming Dar al-Ifta from a institution that was the extension of one individual (the Grand Mufti) to a modern institution with a fatwa council and a system of checks and balances
Professor Ali Gomaa is a prolific author and writer on Islamic issues and he writes a weekly column in the Egyptian al-Ahram newspaper in which he discusses matters of current interest and religion.

Professor Muhammad A. S. Abdel Haleem

Professor Muhammad A. S. Abdel Haleem is a professor of Islamic Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, England; and editor of the Journal ofQur'anic Studies

Born in Egypt, Abdel Haleem learned the Qur'an by heart during his childhood, and is now a hafiz. In 2004, Oxford University Press published his translation of the Qur'an into English. He has also published several other works in this field.

Professor Abdel Haleem was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in The Queen's 2008 Birthday Honours. in recognition of his services to Arabic culture, literature and to inter-faith understanding.

Professor Mahmoud Mohieldin

Dr. Mohieldin was born in Egypt in 1965. He received his Bachelor of Science
in Economics, with highest Honors, First in Order of Merit, from Cairo
University, Egypt. In 1989 he received a Diploma in Quantitative Development
Economics, from Warwick University, England and in 1990, he received a
Master of Science in Economic and Social Policy Analysis from University of
York, England, and in 1995, he received his Ph.D. in Economics from University
of Warwick, England. Dr. Mohieldin has been the Minister of Investment of the
Arab Republic of Egypt since 2004 and is a Member of the General Secretariat
of the National Democratic Party, the majority Party in the Arab Republic of
Egypt. In addition he is a Professor in Financial Economics, Faculty of
Economics and Political Science, Cairo University. Dr. Mohieldin holds leading
positions in numerous think tanks, research centers and academic institutions. He has worked as an
Economic Advisor to the Minister of State for Economic Affairs from 1995 to 1997; Senior Economic
Advisor to the Minister of Economy & Foreign Trade from 1997 to 1999; and Senior Advisor to the
Minister of Foreign Trade from 1999 to 2002. He has served as a Member of several Boards of Directors.
Dr. Mohieldin has published several papers and studies in the areas of Financial Economics, Financial
Reform, Prudential Regulation, Trade in Services, Globalization, Exchange Rate and Monetary Policies,
Corporate Governance and Competition Policy.

Professor Radwan EL-Sayed

Lebanese writer and thinker, holder of a Superior License from the Faculty of Theology at Al Azhar University in 1970. He was granted the PhD in philosophy from the University of Tübingen, in the Federal Germany, in 1977.

Details:

He is a professor of Islamic studies at the Lebanese University since 1978, and the editor of the quarterly magazine “Al Jihad” with Fadl Shalak, since 1988, which has stopped recently. He is also the Director of the Higher Institute for Islamic Studies, and has published several books and translations. He writes political and intellectual articles in the two newspapers “Al-Hayat” and “Middle East”.

He is also a Professor at the Department of Usul al-Din and Comparative Religion in IIUM. He received his BA and MA in Philosophy from the University of Khartoum in Sudan, and PhD from the Temple University in Philadelphia, USA. He specialises in Islamic philosophy, Islamic education, Islamic sociology and comparative religion, and is also in the International Advisory Board for International Conference on Engineering Professional Ethics and Education (ICEPEE).

Professor Omaima M. Abou-Bakr

Professor of English & Comparative
Literature at Cairo University. She received her education at Cairo University,
North Carolina State University, and the University of California at Berkeley.
She specialized in medieval Sufi poetry and comparative topics in medieval
English and Arabic literature. Her scholarly interests also include women’s
mysticism and female spirituality in Christianity and Islam, feminist theology,
Muslim women’s history, and gender issues in Islamic discourses and cultural
history. She has published a number of articles in both English and Arabic on
poetry and medieval literary texts, on historical representations of women in
pre-modern Muslim societies, women and gender issues in religious discourses,
and Islamic feminism. One early published book in Arabic—Al-mar'ah
wa-al-jindar:
Woman and Gender (2002)—deals with women’s intellectual
efforts to create emancipative and egalitarian discourses within an Islamic
conceptual framework. A more recent publication is an edited Reader that
contains translations into Arabic of foundational articles in Christian
feminist theology and Islamic feminist research: Al-niswiyyah wa-al-dirasat
al-diniyah:
Feminism and Religious Studies (2012).

Professor Shehab Marzaban

Shehab Visiting Professor in Islamic Finance at Zayed University, Co-founder and Managing Partner of Shekra Crowdfunding  and an expert in computer-based financial services with consulting, research and teaching experience in Islamic Finance, Funds and Decision Support Models.

Prior to that he worked with a number of startups such as being Product Development Director and Head of Research for IdealRatings Inc. a San Francisco-based startup, which became the global market leader for Shariah-compliant fund services. 

He received his PhD specializing in Shariah-compliant Portfolio Management from the University of Cologne in Germany and has published in the areas of Shariah-compliant Crowdfunding, Entrepreneurship and Islamic funds which have appeared or were presented in numerous ranked international journals and events such as the Journal of Banking and Finance, the Banker, the Harvard Islamic Finance Forum and Cambridge University. He has been a Visiting Fellow at Durham University and is currently a Visiting Lecturer at various universities in Europe, Malaysia and MENA, a technical committee member of the Finance Accreditation Agency in Malaysia as well as Board Member of the Egyptian Islamic Finance Association.
