Welcome to the Institute for Islamic World Studies (IIWS), the center of excellence in education and research on Islam and Islamic societies.

IIWS engages in undergraduate and graduate education, community development and scholarly works, with the goal of enabling the next generation to deal effectively with complex realities of the twenty-first century. The primary tasks of IIWS are to provide a distinguished and creative academic environment that promotes the professional self-development of students, and to prepare students for a changing society. IIWS offers program compatible epistemologically and methodologically with the latest achievements in humanities and social sciences.

IIWS faculty have a distinctive blend of social sciences, humanities, and Islamic Studies, and are well established in their fields as well as fully committed to educating young generations. Faculty teach the undergraduate Islamic Civilization courses at Zayed University, as well as the IIWS unique graduate programs. IIWS has initiated, or is in the process of initiating, the following graduate programs: M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Contemporary Islamic Studies as well as in Islamic World Studies; M.A. in Judiciary Studies, M.A. in Islamic Economics and Wealth Management, and M.A. in Endowment Studies. Future graduate programs could include Comparative Religions, Islamic Chaplaincy, Women Studies, Human Rights as well as graduate certificate programs in all of the above mentioned areas.

In addition, IIWS hosts international conferences and conducts research and scholarly works. The Institute’s educational and research mission will assist the country and the region in providing appropriate responses to local, regional, and global conditions.
