Professor Ahmed Seffah is a distinguished scholar pioneering human-centric AI systems engineering for sustainability at the intersection of Human-Computer Interaction, Software Engineering, and Artificial Intelligence. In 2001, he coined the term "Human-Centered Software Engineering," establishing a paradigm that has shaped three decades of research and practice.

One fundamental contribution of Prof. Seffah is a Human-Centric Design Theory called "The Design is Right and the Right Design," grounded in seminal works of design theorists including Herbert Simon's "The Sciences of the Artificial" and Kachurel's C-K Theory, with measurement of "Right" (User-Centric Quality Measures) and "Right" (Design Science Research Measures). He is adapting such a theory in the context of human-centric AI systems design.

As a full professor and CRC Tier II at Concordia University in Canada, Europe, and the UAE during the last four years, Professor Seffah has designed and accredited over 15 academic programs, including 2 doctoral and 3 interdisciplinary master's degrees. His scholarly impact includes 8 books and over 200 publications in premier venues, while his mentorship has cultivated 15 PhD graduates now serving as professors globally or leading innovation at IBM, SAP, and Oracle.

His ongoing research portfolio—spanning Human-AI-Things Interaction, Human-Centric AI Software Systems, and AI-Powered Software Engineering with applications supporting UN Sustainable Development Goals and ESG frameworks—has attracted substantial funding through EU Horizon, Erasmus+, and Canadian research councils. In the continuity of the two living labs he created—SEUL (Software Engineering Usability Lab) at Concordia University and CODER Living (Co-Design and Experimentation with User Experience) at Lappeenranta University of Technology—he is the founder of the Symbio Living Lab, a cutting-edge research facility bridging AI software systems and the sustainability challenge in UAE, GCC, and MENA regions.

Beyond academia, Professor Seffah demonstrates profound humanitarian commitment, employing human-centric design thinking to help global communities develop innovative solutions addressing sustainability challenges, positioning him as an influential figure bridging technological advancement with human-centered values.
