Energy

Energy has long been part of the Abu Dhabi and UAE and UAE will remain one of the largest producers of oil in the world.  UAE has used vast oil wealth to revamp its infrastructure and to attract foreign investment.  UAE leadership is very concerned about the impact of development on the natural resources and the environment. UAE is also home to the corporate headquarters of significant operations of nearly all of the multinational energy companies and a large number of mid- and small-cap energy companies. UAE is also becoming flagship of renewable energy options. UAE has a proven dynamic and stable growth; the services that the energy group of College of Natural and Health Sciences (CNHS) at Zayed University are expected to be of prime importance to sustain this growth.  UAE has a significant emerging regional role that expected to have an impact on the regional energy and environmental policy scenes.

Globally, there is a great need for improving the use of scientific and engineering understandings and information and translating such into actions, recommendations and policies to support energy and environmental decision making.  This requires understanding of certain science process and developing technological options among other approaches. The energy group at College of Natural and Health Sciences provide interdisciplinary assessments of current and emerging local and regional energy and environmental issues and develops policy options for dealing with them at global, national, and local scales.  CNHS and its associated lab components is serving as the central liaison for energy and environmental research, education, and community service at Zayed University and beyond. It will emphases on adequate and economical use of energy and on promoting a cleaner environment by developing, in cooperation with UAE-based industry, processes and technology options that minimize waste and conserve natural resources. The center will involve experts from sciences, engineering, economic, business, and social fields in multidimensional technical and policy studies.  The CNHS energy group improve the processes of supporting decisions with all relevant elements.  Impact statements, environmental risk analyses, environmental quality of soil, water and air, radiation issues, indoor air quality, carbon issues, red tides, salinzation, sinkholes hazards, sandstorm, energy options, the links/ nexus between the three E’s (energy, environment and economic) are just examples of research lines that will be address not just to understand their behavior but to find solutions to their associated impacts.  The researchers and fellows of CNHS will combine broad knowledge of scientific, engineering, and social/human dimensions to help public sector environmental agencies and private-sector clients determine the most effective and efficient options for attaining sustainable environmental goals.  Lab components will be attached to the CNHS.
