Bio

Dr. Imen Ben Salem is a leading expert in CO2 capture and sequestration, clean energy technology, and environmental protection. She has pioneered the development of eco-friendly mineralization technologies for enhanced carbon capture using biochar derived from agricultural waste. Her postdoctoral work at the Masdar Institute, in collaboration with MIT, made significant contributions to the understanding of CO2 transport into saline aquifers, essential for underground CO2 storage. In partnership with the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) team, Dr. Imen is also at the forefront of developing a 3rd-generation hole transport media-free carbon perovskite solar device, focusing on high performance, long-term stability and understanding the degradation processes of perovskite solar cells. Dr. Imen's research excellence is reflected in her extensive publication record, with over 35 papers in high-impact journals and numerous presentations at international conferences. Her work, which extends to studying the effects of atmospheric pollution on health and the environment, demonstrates her unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable solutions in environmental science. Dr. Imen integrates her extensive research experience into her teaching, actively involving students in her projects and incorporating practical research applications into her curriculum.
