Al Ain Trip
The Nutrition Club at CNHS, in collaboration with Latifa Center, has arranged a visit on 16 April to the 260 Sustainable Farm in Al Ain. The visit aimed to explore practical applications of sustainable agricultural practices, particularly in crop cultivation and composting. Dr. Sharifa Alblooshi, the club advisor, stated that the farm integrates several sustainable practices, including organic composting, water-efficient irrigation systems, and diverse crop cultivation, all tailored to the local climate. The composting methods transform organic waste into a rich soil amendment, reducing waste while improving soil health, a practical example of circular economy principles. They also utilize an advanced drip irrigation system that minimizes water usage while ensuring efficient crop hydration, a critical innovation given our region’s arid conditions. The farm grows various fruits, vegetables, and applies techniques like crop rotation and integrated pest management to maintain ecosystem balance. Beyond the environmental aspect, the visit offered clear public health and environmental connections, from food safety and nutrition to waste management and water conservation. It presents a rich, interdisciplinary learning opportunity for our students to see theory applied in a real-world setting. |
