Introduction

Wafa Zoghbor is an Associate Professor in Applied Linguistics. She has been working for Zayed University since January 2012. She has also attained several leadership certificates including the International Scholarship of Leadership and teaching and learning in Higher Education with the University of British Colombia in Canada. Her expertise in applied linguistics covers phonology, English as a lingua franca (ELF), English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in higher education, and sociolinguistics. Dr. Zoghbor has written on these topics in journals such as System, Intellectual Discourse, World Englishes, and Asian Englishes, and serves as a reviewer and manuscript editor for several refereed journals.

The Phonology of English as a Lingua Franca (ELF); Sociolingusitics; Langauge and Identity; English as a medium of instruction (EMI).

  • Unifying Multiple identities through Arab varieties: Analysis of dialects in Kawaja Abdulqader’s Discourse.
  • The effect of Attitude on Arab Learners’ Intelligibility and Comprehensibility.
  • Arabic as the Lingua Franca (ALF): The White Dialect.
  • Glocal Citizenship: Language Policy and Identity.
  • English Composition Teachers' Needs in a Multi-Cultural Community.

Teaching Areas

  • ZU courses: COL 145 - English Composition II; COL 240 - English Composition III; URSP Modules: Data collection and analysis, quantitative and qualitative analysis software, Writing up research projects and dissemination of data.
