Introduction

Timothy Nicoll is Senior Instructor at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, in the Language Studies Department of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS). He has taught English in a range of contexts for over twenty years. In addition to his teaching background, Timothy has extensive experience of English assessment both as an examiner and as an administrator. He also played a key role in course and curriculum development in the Academic Bridge Program and University College before his recent move to CHSS.

Timothy is also a qualified CELTA trainer and has completed the Cambridge Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. He holds an MA in Political Science from Newcastle University, as well as an MA in Applied Linguistics and TESOL from Leicester University, and is currently studying for a PhD in Educational Research at Lancaster University.

Research and Professional Activities

Research interests:

Timothy’s research interests include English as a medium of instruction (EMI), student motivation, enhancing the student learning experience through educational technology and teaching innovations, and the teaching and learning of the systems and skills of English.

Current Projects:

He is currently writing up his PhD study on student motivation and reading, and is also co-researching a study on ways to effectively combine EdTech apps to help students write more effectively.
