Bio

Dr. Mariam Alhashmi is an Assistant Professor in the College of Education at Zayed University. She holds a PhD in Educational Management and Leadership. Prior to joining ZU, she was the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at Emirates National Schools, responsible for overseeing all areas related to teaching and learning of 20 schools across the United Arab Emirates. She has extensive expertise in the areas of international education, teacher professional development, and Arabic and Islamic education teaching and learning. Dr Mariam is a certified International Baccalaureate (IB) workshop leader and a site visitor. She has trained hundreds of teachers and principals in the UAE, Kuwait, KSA, and Kenya. She also presented in conferences and symposiums in the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Morocco, and Spain on Arabic and Islamic Education teaching and learning.

Research interests span across three areas: 1) the philosophy of Islamic education and its implications for curriculum development and teacher professional learning, 2) Arabic language teaching and learning, curriculum development, and teacher professional learning, and 3) personalized learning, learning beyond classrooms, and innovative learning spaces.
