ALLT Forum 2020
The Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching team (ALLT) at Zayed University, in collaboration with the Higher Colleges of Technology (HCT), hosted the ALLT 2020 Fall Forum on Saturday, 28th November 2020. This was the second online forum that was conducted virtually by ALLT through the Cisco Webex platform. Continuing with the spiked interest in remote pedagogy in the academic circles, and in response to the global shift to online education due to the Covid pandemic, the theme of the Fall 2020 forum was: ‘Making the Impossible Possible: Mastering the Future of Remote Education’.
The forum provided an essential platform for shared experiences with remote linguistics and language education. Presenters from all over the world, including the UAE, KSA, Egypt, Palestine, Algeria, UK and Japan, readily participated and shared their expertise and experiences with a very international body of attendees. 35 presentations were scheduled to run in parallel sessions across 5 virtual rooms, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, with the distinguished keynote speakers bringing the forum to a close at 3:30 pm. The keynote sessions, delivered by Professor Justin Thomas from Zayed University, and Dr. Tammy Gregersen from the University of Sharjah, both touched upon the very important aspects of mindfulness and emotional well-being for educators. Dr Justin’s talk was titled ‘Mindfulness, Compassion and Creativity and the Classroom’ while Dr. Tammy spoke on ‘Maintaining Emotional Wellbeing While Mastering Remote Education’.
Faculty from both ZU and the HCT volunteered their time and effort to assist with hosting and moderation the online sessions once again for this virtual forum, resulting in a very professional and organized event. Below is the list of the participatory team.
