International Conference on Celebrating Arab Women Agents of Change and Progress in Honor of Nawal El Saadawi Organized by the Journal of Arabic and World Literature (London, UK)

The conference had a considerable number of attendees from all over the world. As a result of conference discussion, it was agreed that all participant and attendees sign a petition asking for Dr. Nawal El Saadawi’s nomination for a Nobel prize for her achievements over the past 50 years.

“When the law is unjust you have to break it; this is dissidence. When the system is unjust you have to change it; this is revolution.” The words of Dr Nawal El Saadawi have been the guiding force and the agents of change and progress for generations of readers, feminists, scholars, activists and the youth.  She inspired people all over the world and created a cultural revolution by shaping the history of thought and society for the past fifty years. El Saadawi’s ability to withstand exile, death threats, imprisonment, banning of her books and the closing down of her organization AWASA made her a live example of fortitude and courage. Nawal’s life and work is a revolution in word and deed.
