17 Oct 2016

Dr. Tilde Rosmer, will present our next 'Lecture series' in Abu Dhabi Monday 7th Nov. 2016 at 12:30 till 1:30 in FF1-2-068. Refreshments and light lunch will be provided.

Dr. Rosmer has already given this lecture in Dubai.  She has left a strong impact on the audience and among colleagues as she highlighted a area of research and knowledge hidden from the Collective memory, particularly in the region, though, it is so fundamental to the understanding of the Middle East and the Arab/Israeli struggle.

1- The presentation of her title: The Disappearance of the Arab Jews: The Making of the Oriental Jews and their Current Predicament

2- Short description of her presentation:

This lecture addresses how the situation for the Jewish minority in the Middle East and North Africa changed with the Western colonial interference in the region and the developments of Zionism and Arab nationalism. Based on Dr. Rosmer’s research on Middle Eastern and North African Jews from the late 1990s, this talk introduces and discusses their predicament as ‘internal Oriental others’ in the Jewish state: how they are doing today, what they think of the past, their forced or chosen departure, and current political developments.
