Serra Gorpe, Ph.D., teaches public relations and communication research at CCMS Dubai.
She graduated from Bogazici University, Istanbul, with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an M.A. in Social Psychology. She also has a M.Sc. degree in Public Relations from Boston University School of Communication, Massachusetts. She received her Ph.D. degree in Public Relations and Advertising from Istanbul University. Accredited in Public Relations (APR), she is a former board member and a member of the Turkish Public Relations Association, a member of the European Public Relations Education and Research Association and a former council member of the International Public Relations Association.
She joined Istanbul University, Faculty of Communication, Public Relations and Advertising Department as a full-time academic upon completion of her Ph.D. and has taught at Eastern Mediterranean University, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Istanbul Bilgi University, and Izmir University of Economics, Turkey. At the European University of Lefke, TRNC, she served as Acting Dean and Acting Department Head of Public Relations and Advertising of Communications Sciences. She has attended a number of national/international conferences presenting research papers.
Her research has been published in journals and books. She also has translated, written and edited books related to public relations. Prior to joining academia, she worked as a public relations professional (1988-1999) on the agency and the corporate side. Her research interests include: public relations education, international public relations, crisis management, corporate responsibility, and women in public relations.
She teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in marketing communications, integrated communications international public relations, introduction to public relations, public relations campaign, crisis communications, intercultural communication, research in social sciences and communication research history.
