Charlotte Wien has 20 years’ experience with teaching, supervision of students at all levels including Ph.D., and services at university level.

She has gained most of her experience at University of Southern Denmark where she has worked with Mass Communication, journalism and Media Studies. She has played a key role in running and further developing the journalism programs in both Denmark and in Greenland where she has been appointed Honorary Professor in Journalism. She has been solely responsible for building the first Danish ‘Master of Journalism’ program, which she has chaired for 12 years.

She has been the vice-president of The European Journalism Training Association (EJTA) for four years until 2013 and has since then served as advisor for the board. Her research focus is on Science Communication. It revolves around questions like “How does mass media representation of research effect the public understanding of science?” Her research stretches from purely theoretical work, historical method, quantitative, qualitative content analyses and recently action research.

Her work has been published either as monographs or in high ranked international peer reviewed journals like “Journalism”, “European Journal of Communication” and “The International Journal of Press/Politics”. Dr. Wien also has a profound interest in the Middle East: Before her career in media studies she worked as a Middle East scholar for five years and has traveled extensively in the Middle East.
