Biography
Kund Florian is Assistant Professor in Tourism and Cultural Communications in the College of Communication and Media Sciences, Zayed University, UAE. Previously, he was Assistant Professor at the Institute of Social Sciences and International Relations, Budapest Metropolitan University, Hungary, and Teaching Assistant at the Department of Communications and New Media, National University of Singapore (NUS). He worked on various research projects from Geneva and Copenhagen to Kuala Lumpur.
His diverse academic background and experience combine an interdisciplinary research and teaching interest in communication studies and tourism, with over 15 years industry experience in cultural travel.
His recent research ideas explore the role of place branding in building resilient and successful communities with a focus on the Global South. More specifically, he studies how practices and discourses of cultural communication may create and transform ideas of belonging in the social imaginary. He published and presented at international conferences on nation branding as a means of internal cultural policy.
His extensive industry experience includes tourism product development, attractions management, and creative experience design. He worked for award winning travel companies across the world, and he advised international organizations and governmental agencies on issues of cultural diplomacy, destination marketing, and communication for development.
