Biography
James Piecowye is the dean and associate professor of the College of Communication and Media Sciences, Zayed University, UAE, where he has been a faculty member since 2000.
Before joining Zayed University, Piecowye was an assistant editor at St. Remy Multimedia, where he worked on the revision of the Time-Life Home Repair and Improvement book series. Since joining Zayed University, Piecowye has worked tirelessly to link his academic activities and practice. For three years, Piecowye contributed to the now-defunct tabloid 7Days. For 11 years, Piecowye hosted Nightline, a nightly talk show on DubaiEye 103.8FM. Today his CarTalk podcast is broadcast daily on 100.3 Talk in Dubai. Piecowye was also the co-curator of the 1st TEDxDubai and brought TEDx to Zayed University and Abu Dhabi University. In 2014 Piecowye brought CreativeMornings, the breakfast lecture series, to Dubai, and the monthly community event hosted over 70 breakfast lecture events before he handed it over to a new host. More recently, Piecowye has spearheaded the creation of his own content creation project, THEJAMESCASTS, on Spotify, YouTube and Instagram. Piecowye has been published in the SAGE International Encyclopedia of Mass Media and Society and Journalism Studies.
Piecowye’s research interests are firmly rooted in understanding the creator/consumer dialectic in podcasting and what metrics mean in a new media environment.
