Russell Blair Williams, Assistant Dean - Abu Dhabi and Associate Professor


Russell Blair Williams, Ph.D., his administrative experience includes 10 years as the program coordinator for the Digital Graphic Communication program at Hong Kong Baptist University.  His teaching experience also includes Pennsylvania State University and Indiana University.  He has taught across mass communication curricula with a particular interest and expertise in digital media. 

Dr. Williams is a pioneer in the teaching of digital communication creating and teaching the first communication-based digital media production courses in the United States at Baylor University and Penn State.  He is now focusing his digital media teaching in advertising and social media.  His research interests include media consumption and advertising in the digital age with a particular emphasis on Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and the design and effect of mediated experience with a particular emphasis on advertising and branding.  Additionally, Dr. Williams holds a U.S. Utility Patent for the design of an educational game.

He is pursuing the exploitation of that patent for the benefit of students and others in the Middle East and beyond.  Before completing his Ph.D., Dr. Williams worked as a television news reporter, story producer and photographer in Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas.  He has consulted on communication projects and lectured on aspects of digital media and games in Asia, Africa and the Americas.  He received his Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Linfield College, McMinnville, Oregon, his Master of Arts in Communication from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, Ft. Worth, Texas, and his doctorate in Telecommunications from Indiana University in Bloomington.
