James Piecowye, Associate Professor

James David Dean Piecowye, Ph.D., His professional activities currently include, producing and presenting a variety of shows on the PODAHOLIKS podcasting network, based out of Dubai.  For 12 years James produced and presented Nightline, a popular interactive English language radio talk show discussing issues of the day, on DubaiEye 103.8FM. He was a columnist for 7Days, the 1st free daily English language tabloid newspaper in the UAE.

James is an avid experimental blogger and podcaster, www.thejamescast.com,  with a local and international following on Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin and Youtube. 

 James joined the CCMS faculty in 2000 and was involved in the creation of Zayed Media Lab, ZURadio and was part of the founding editorial board for Zajel, the CCMS student media outlet. His research interests include information and media literacy applications in the classroom, broadcast media in the UAE and the role of media in the habituation of culture, which has been published in Journalism Studies, Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Social Science Computer Review and Encyclopedia of Digital Media. Dr. Piecowye has participated in three TED conferences (www.TED.com) and in 2009 was the co-curator and organizer of TEDxDubai the 1st independently organized TED event in the region.

James is the driving force behind CreativeMornings in Dubai, a monthly breakfast speaking series for Dubai's creative community (https://creativemornings.com/cities/DXB).

He received his B.A. degree in mass communication from Carleton University, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada; MA in political science (public policy and public administration) from Concordia University, Montreal, Quebec, Canada; and Ph.D. in communication from the University of Montreal.
