Filareti Kotsi, Professor


Filareti Kotsi, Ph.D., a recipient of several recognition awards, is a Professor and the Graduate Programs Coordinator at the College of Communication and Media Sciences at the Dubai campus at Zayed University in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Filareti’s work initially addressed an interest in reflexive anthropology and the enchanted communication of religious tourism and pilgrimage in Mount Athos (Greece). Her research broadened, aiming to develop scientific knowledge on destination image and attractiveness topics that vary according to the travel context of destinations- whether medical, cultural, religious, or educational. Filareti and her research team have been responsible for establishing stopover research in 2016. Her domain also seeks to develop a scientific platform for understanding the branding of a medical tourism destination (mainly in the UAE). Her leadership of multidisciplinary teams has resulted in more than 60 published peer-reviewed journal articles and conference proceedings (e.g., Tourism ManagementJournal of Travel and Tourism MarketingCurrent Issues in Tourism, Journal of Destination Marketing and Management, Journal of Hospitality and Tourism ResearchJournal of Hospitality and Tourism Management, Tourism Management Perspectives). Filareti has organized several international conferences and the Zayed University Middle East Film Festival (ZUMEFF). She is currently studying Creative Writing at the University of Oxford (UK) and was awarded the Advanced Creative Writing and Life Writing Certificate from the University of Oxford (2020). She was awarded the Executive Leadership Certificate from the University of Oxford (2020) and the English Language Teaching Certificate from the University of Cambridge (1989). Outside of work, Filareti is engaged in international humanitarian work and enjoys the art of photography. She is currently training to participate in a swimming event in FINA World Masters Championships 2022 (Japan).
